Travel information

Barcelona airport to the city centre

By taxi is usually the most convenient way to travel into the centre – about 20mins. The cost, to the apartment, will be between 24–30 euros depending on traffic and the number of cases in the boot (charged at 0.85 each). Dearer at night after 9pm, at weekends and on certain public holidays. In the immediate area of the flat there is a traffic control scheme which limits entry to the streets. If the driver is grumpy about taking you to the door the best drop off point is Ronda Sant Antoni with c.Paloma or c.Ferlandina, 1 minute’s walk from the apartments.

The Aerobus connects the airport with Plaça Catalunya in the centre of Barcelona (and stops in between). Since the opening of the new terminal 1 at Barcelona airport there are two Aerobus numbers: A1 and A2, serving Terminal 1 (new) and Terminal 2 (A, B & C) respectively. The Aerobus runs approx every 10 minutes depending on time of day and costs 5.30 euros. Round trip tickets may be slightly cheaper than 2 singles. Buy tickets on the coach. Journey time is about 25 minutes.
Operates from airport to town centre from 6am to 1am; from the centre back to the airport from 5.30am to 0.15am. Zone 1 metro and bus tickets not valid on this bus. Note that the route of the Aerobus has changed in 2009 and it does not now pass Sants station.
For the apartments, get off at Plaça Universitat and you have just a few minutes walk to the door. When you want to go to the airport from Barcelona centre by Aerobus you should know beforehand which terminal your flight leaves from and take the correct bus accordingly (A1 or A2). If you need to change terminals once you are at the airport, there is a free shuttle bus running between them.

The train leaves the airport every 30 minutes (08 mins and 38 mins past hour) stopping at Sants and Passeig de Gràcia. But, for the apartments, the train from the airport is not a good option: taxi or Aerobus are far more convenient.

Combined metro, bus, train ticket
If you're going to be moving around Barcelona by metro or bus, its worth buying a T10, ten ride ticket (8.25 euros) for Zone 1. The ticket will be valid for ten journies by any combination of metro, train or bus, not limited to the day of purchase or to the purchaser. Other bargain tickets also available (2, 3, 4 or 5 day passes); ask at ticket windows or check the TMB website, www.tmb.net

From Girona airport to Barcelona

Barcelona Bus logo and linkCoach company serving Girona airport, Barcelona and the Costa Brava. The fare to Barcelona is (approx) 12 euros single or 21 euros return. The coach terminates at the Estació del Nord from where you must take a taxi, or catch the metro from Arc de Triomf to Universitat (Line 1, red).

Car hire / parking
All the usual car-hire companies operate in Barcelona plus smaller local companies, but unless you are planning excursions outside Barcelona, a car is a burden in the centre of the city. Parking on the street in the old town is impossible, so if you want to have your car close by the best solution is a pay car park (nearby Parking approx 28 euros per day). Ask us if you would like advice on locations.
An alternative solution is to park your car on the street away from the centre in a non-meter zone and use it only when you need to drive out of Barcelona.
